Valldemosa: a small village in Palma de Mallorca.
Valldemosa is a village nestled into the mountains in the western part of Palma de Mallorca in Spain.
I had also the chance to be a tour escort for this shore excursion with some cruise passengers. We took a bus with a local tour guide from the pier to this village which took for about 45 minutes, the time might be subject to changes due to traffic.
Valldemosa is a picturesque village which displays medieval style houses, shops (especially pearl shops) and its floor is cobblestone. There are plenty trees around. Talking about pearls, the tour guide made a raffle for the passengers, as you may know, there is always one winner, but I received a gift from one of those shops which consists of a pearl ornament to put to my necklace…Valldemosa definately made my day!! 🙂
Monastery of La Cartuja.
This village is famous because of the Monastery of La Cartuja where Frederic Chopin and George Sand spent the winter in 1838-1839. At some of its rooms, Chopin composed his Raindrop Prelude while George Sand wrote her book ¨A Winter in Majorca¨. Besides, you can see Ruben Dario’s text in reference to Valldemosa.
The Monastery of La Cartuja is nowadays a museum where the visitor gets to know the monks’s life style from that time. There is also a souvenir shop and after the tour, the visitors will have a small live performance played by one of the priests at an auditorium.
Later, we took another trip to Na Foradada which took for about 15 minutes. Na Foradada is a seaside where you can seat to admire the sunset after having spent a splendid day in Valldemosa. You can buy also some souvenirs on the road.
Valldemosa is the perfect getaway to spend the weekend. So, if you are in Palma de Mallorca, you know where to go during the weekend 🙂
