Zurich: What to see there in two days in Switzerland
After my two-night stay in Munich, I took a bus to Zurich which ride took for 5 hours. While in Europe, I like travelling by bus to nearby cities. However, if the city is far from another one, I take a domestic flight, although I pay my additional luggage (thanks for the reminder, Ryanair 😉 ).
Once you arrive to the Swiss border, the passenger has to pass migrations which takes for about 15 minutes. Afterwards, I continued my trip to Zurich. Once I got there for the first time, I remember telling to myself: Welcome to Switzerland!! 🙂
The bus station located in Limmatstrasse is for about two blocks of the Hotel Gasthaus 210 where I stayed. From it, you can get to the Zurich Old Town by walk. First of all, I took Josefstrasse, then Zollstrasse from where you will see the Zurich Main Station opposite to you. Inside, there is the Tourist Information Centre where they can give you the city map.
National Museum Zurich
This important museum is a 100-year-old building which resembles cosely to a fairy-tale castle. It keeps the largest collection of cultural artefacts of Switzerland. It is located close to the Limmat (Lake Zurich).
Fraumunster
This church used to be a convent which was founded 853 by King Louis The German. After the Reformation, its ownership passed to the City of Zurich. It is separated by the Munster Brucke from the Grossmunster.
Lindenhof
It is located on top of Zurich historical quarter from where you can contemplate the Limmat, the most important lake in Zurich and also the right part of the Old Town. It is a peaceful and relaxing area for meetings and events of all kinds.
Bahnhofstrasse
This famous shopping area is about 1.4 kms in length covering The Main Station with Limmat. There you will find next to each other boutiques, department stores and jewellry shops.
FIFA World Football Museum
I knew that its administrative building is in Zurich. It was a surprise to me when I found out that there is also a football museum. I bought the entrance ticket at the end part of the Zurich Main Station, although it was kinda expensive but worthy its visit to this interactive and illustrating museum for football novices and amateurs (I play as goalkeeper).Â
You can see there the history of football, national jerseys of all FIFA members (I was delighted to find Peru’s jersey) and some games for all ages. In addition, there is a gallery dedicated to women’s football history which took me into tears.
Although, Switzerland is quite expensive in general because for its quality of life, it is a country with lots of history through its buildings and there are always cheap options for the budget visitors.
